Ahmedabad : MarkPatent hosted its 19th Annual International Conclave on Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) titled “Innovation without Borders: IP, AI & Global Governance” at Renaissance Ahmedabad Hotel, bringing together intellectual property professionals, corporate representatives, policy experts, academicians, and technology specialists from across India.
The conclave focused on the growing importance of intellectual property and artificial intelligence in driving business innovation, protecting competitive advantage, and supporting global market expansion. A key highlight of the event was the Third Technical Session featuring a Live Mock Trial, which simulated a commercial dispute involving design infringement and passing off in trade dress and product configuration—issues highly relevant for brand protection and market positioning. The session demonstrated practical aspects of IP enforcement, litigation strategy, and dispute resolution in competitive business environments.
Advocate Avadhoot Sumant, appearing for the Plaintiff, presented arguments on statutory protection under design law and the commercial distinctiveness of trade dress. Representing the Defendant, Mr. Shahvata Shukla presented counter-arguments focusing on functionality, originality, and limits of design protection. Hon’ble Justice Mr. A.C. Rao (Former Judge, Gujarat High Court) delivered judicial insights on emerging challenges in design enforcement and trade dress litigation in the context of evolving technology and market competition.
