Spartanburg, South Carolina, USA: The Indian community in Spartanburg, South Carolina, came together in a vibrant celebration of faith, devotion and Indian cultural heritage with a 7-mile Maa Ambe Padyatra. Approximately 150 devotees participated in the spiritual journey, carrying forward the traditions and devotional spirit of India on American soil.
The padyatra was organised with the support of Satish Patel (Ambasan) by Ketan Patel (Ambasan), Krunal Gondalia, Sanjay Patel (Paliyad), Bharat Bava, Mitul Patel (Paliyad) and the Spartanburg Group. The devotional procession was conducted with official police permission. To support the safety and orderly movement of the participants, two police vans accompanied the padyatra as part of the convoy throughout the journey.
Devotees walked approximately 7 miles with religious flags and devotional symbols, creating an atmosphere of faith, unity and celebration. The journey provided an opportunity for families and members of the Indian community to come together in devotion to Maa Ambe while celebrating their shared cultural roots.
Held thousands of miles away from India, the padyatra reflected the continued connection of the Indian diaspora with its religious traditions, customs and cultural identity. Such community-led celebrations also provide an opportunity for younger generations growing up in the United States to experience and remain connected to India’s rich cultural heritage.
The participation of around 150 devotees turned the seven-mile journey into a meaningful community gathering, bringing together people through faith, fellowship and cultural pride. The presence of the police convoy also reflected the coordinated nature of the event and the cooperation between the organisers and local authorities in ensuring a safe and organised procession.
