New York: The tenth edition of Gujarat–Maharashtra Day was celebrated in New York, bringing together members of the Indian diaspora, policymakers, and cultural leaders in a showcase of heritage, unity, and economic relevance. The event was organised by Gujarati Associations of North America in partnership with the Consulate General of India and Federation of Indian Associations.
The event highlighted the growing influence of the Gujarati and Maharashtrian diaspora in strengthening India–US ties, with speakers noting that the two states together contribute nearly 25% of India’s GDP, underscoring their economic significance on both domestic and global stages.
Addressing the gathering, Vinay Kwatra emphasised the role of diaspora-led initiatives in preserving cultural identity while advancing bilateral engagement. Suresh Prabhu noted that Gujarat’s entrepreneurial strength and Maharashtra’s position as India’s financial hub will be central to the country’s long-term economic growth trajectory.
The programme featured cultural performances by Falu Shah and Hardik Chauhan, alongside traditional dance presentations reflecting the shared heritage of the two states. Community-led culinary initiatives further underscored efforts to preserve regional traditions among younger generations.
The celebration also recognised the increasing representation of Indian-origin leaders in public office in the United States, highlighting the diaspora’s expanding socio-economic footprint. Organisers said the decade-long initiative continues to serve as a platform to strengthen cultural continuity, community collaboration, and economic dialogue.
