In partnership with Smile Train India, the initiative will raise awareness and connect families across Gujarat with free, comprehensive cleft care
Ahmedabad: On the occasion of World Smile Day, Himalaya Wellness Company has brought its Muskaan initiative to Ahmedabad in partnership with Smile Train India, aiming to create greater awareness about cleft conditions and connect more children and families with timely, comprehensive care.
Marking its 12th year, Muskaan has adopted the kite as its central theme in Ahmedabad, inspired by the city’s strong connection with kite-flying. The campaign, ‘Ek Nayi Muskaan’, draws a parallel between a kite rising with the right support and a child being empowered through timely care and support. The initiative goes beyond cleft surgery to highlight the importance of feeding, nutrition, speech support and overall development for children born with cleft conditions.
Actor Mandira Bedi, who is supporting the initiative, said that timely treatment and continued support can play an important role in helping children build confidence and participate fully in everyday life. She emphasised that a child’s cleft condition should not define or limit their dreams. According to Rajesh Krishnamurthy, Business Director, Consumer Products Division, Himalaya Wellness Company, Muskaan has been part of Himalaya Wellness’ social initiatives since 2015. He said the Ahmedabad campaign will help extend awareness and access to more families across Gujarat, particularly in rural and underserved communities.
Ragini Hariharan, Marketing Director – Beauty & Personal Care, Himalaya Wellness, said the kite theme reflects the idea of taking flight and looking towards new possibilities, with the right support helping children move forward with confidence. As part of the outreach programme, a mobile van will travel across rural and underserved communities in 22 districts of Gujarat, spreading awareness about cleft conditions and connecting eligible children with free cleft surgery and comprehensive care.
Mamta Carroll, Senior Vice President & Regional Director for Asia, Smile Train, highlighted that surgery is only one part of a child’s cleft-care journey, with feeding, nutrition, speech and developmental support also playing an important role.
Through the Muskaan initiative, Himalaya Wellness and Smile Train India aim to reduce gaps in awareness and access to cleft care and encourage more families to seek timely support. Families seeking information or assistance can contact the toll-free helpline: 1800 103 8301.
