Book launch and photo exhibition at Satya Art Gallery to showcase Ladakh’s landscapes, wildlife and cultural heritage
Ahmedabad: Renowned photographer Saurabh Desai’s book ‘JULLEY’ and accompanying photo exhibition will open tomorrow, October 2, at Satya Art Gallery, Navajivan Trust, Ahmedabad. The exhibition will continue until October 31, 2026, from 12:00 PM to 9:00 PM, offering visitors an immersive visual journey through the landscapes, wildlife and cultural life of Ladakh.
The collection reflects Desai’s 15-year photographic journey across Ladakh, Zanskar and Spiti, bringing together moments captured during his repeated journeys through the Himalayan region. Through his photographs, Desai presents not only the dramatic landscapes of the mountains but also the region’s wildlife, people, culture and quieter stories of life amid challenging natural conditions.
Speaking about the project, Saurabh Desai said that ‘JULLEY’ represents his 15-year journey across Ladakh, Zanskar and Spiti and the experiences gathered during his travels. He said Ladakh has influenced not only his approach to photography but also his perspective on nature and life, describing the book as his tribute to the region’s beauty and serene way of life.
The word ‘JULLEY’ carries a warm cultural significance in Ladakh, representing expressions of greeting, welcome, love and respect. The book and exhibition use the word as a reflection of the connection Desai developed with the region through years of exploration and photography.
The exhibition will present a selection of photographs capturing the breathtaking Himalayan landscapes, rare wildlife, local culture and everyday life of Ladakh, allowing art and photography enthusiasts in Ahmedabad to experience the region through Desai’s lens.
