Ladakh, India: While most actors make headlines for their work on screen, Indian-American actor and producer Jay Patel is earning attention for an entirely different reason—successfully completing a challenging Himalayan motorcycle expedition to the world’s highest motorable road, Umling La Pass (19,024 feet), while carrying a message of global peace, unity, and human connection.
Known for his association with projects including Swatantrya Veer Savarkar, Bhuj: The Pride of India, Torbaaz, and Milan Talkies, Patel recently joined an international team of riders on a demanding journey across the rugged landscapes of Ladakh, navigating extreme weather, low oxygen levels, and some of the most difficult roads on the planet.
In an exclusive interaction with this correspondent, Patel described the expedition as much more than an adventure. “The mountains teach you humility. At nearly 20,000 feet, nationality, language, religion, and social status become irrelevant. What matters is helping one another survive and move forward together. That is the message we wanted to carry through this ride,” Patel said.

A Ride Beyond Adventure
The expedition route covered Delhi, Leh, Hanle, Umling La, and several remote Himalayan mountain passes before returning to Leh. Riders encountered freezing temperatures, unpredictable terrain, and oxygen levels significantly lower than those at sea level.
Patel was joined by fellow riders Abhishek Mehta, Ashish Thesia, Aishwarya Gulati, and Hardik Vadodaria, representing a shared spirit of endurance, friendship, and international collaboration.
According to members of the team, the ride was designed to promote peace and harmony at a time when much of the world continues to face social and geopolitical divisions. “We wanted to prove that people from different backgrounds can come together with a common purpose. The Himalayas became our platform to spread that message,” Patel added.
Cinema Meets Courage
Patel has built a diverse career spanning both Indian and international entertainment projects. As a producer, he is associated with the Hollywood film I’m Gonna Tell God Everything and has collaborated with several prominent personalities from the film industry, including Sanjay Dutt, Ajay Devgn, R. Madhavan, the late Irrfan Khan, Randeep Hooda, Abhishek Dudhaiya, Tigmanshu Dhulia, Rahul Mittra, and Jimmy Shergill.
However, this latest achievement highlights another side of the actor-producer—his passion for endurance riding and meaningful social initiatives.
While several film personalities are known motorcycle enthusiasts, undertaking a high-altitude Himalayan expedition with a humanitarian message remains a relatively rare endeavor.
Support from Ladakh Community
The expedition received support from numerous local leaders and community members, including Indian speed-skating champion Vishwaraj Jadeja, along with Sajid Darokhan, Zia Darokhan, Murup Namgyal, Padma Lotus Omyer Lassu, Thinlas Gyalson, Thinles Dorjay (DJ), Faisal Qadir, and members of the wider Ladakh support network.

Patel acknowledged their contribution, stating that such missions become possible only through local cooperation and community spirit. “The warmth and support we received in Ladakh was extraordinary. Every person we met reinforced our belief that kindness and unity transcend all boundaries,” he said.
A Message from the Mountains
As photographs and videos from the journey continue to circulate across social media, the Himalayan Peace Ride is attracting attention from entertainment, travel, adventure, and lifestyle communities alike.
For Patel, however, the achievement is not about records or recognition.“If this journey inspires even a few people to choose understanding over division and peace over conflict, then the mission has succeeded,” he concluded.
In a world often marked by differences, Jay Patel’s ride across the roof of the world serves as a reminder that resilience, friendship, and peace can still unite people—even in the harshest conditions on Earth.
