Ahmedabad : SaveLIFE Foundation (SLF), in collaboration with the Gujarat Road Safety Authority (GujROSA), conducted a Zero Fatality District (ZFD) Programme Orientation and Implementation Workshop in Ahmedabad to strengthen district-level road safety planning and implementation. The workshop brought together senior officials from Ahmedabad Police, RTO, State Traffic Branch, Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC), Roads and Buildings Department, AUDA and other key departments to develop a common understanding of the ZFD approach and identify immediate road safety actions.
Anupam Singh Gehlot, IPS, Commissioner of Police, Ahmedabad City, attended the workshop as the Guest of Honour. Ahmedabad and Surat are among India’s 100 highest-burden districts in terms of road crash severity and are receiving targeted interventions under SLF’s ZFD Programme. The programme focuses on the four Es of road safety — Engineering, Enforcement, Education and Emergency Care.
The ZFD approach uses crash-data analysis to identify accident patterns based on factors such as location, timing, collision type and causal factors. This helps authorities identify high-risk locations and recurring engineering issues, including untreated intersections, median gaps, inadequate crash barriers and exposed roadside hazards.
During the workshop, SLF and district agencies presented findings from joint site assessments in Ahmedabad, along with department-specific recommendations for remedial measures. Participants also discussed strengthening the post-crash response system through trauma care, first-responder training and ambulance response.
Shri Satish Patel, IAS (Retd.), Commissioner, Gujarat Road Safety Authority, said that road safety requires coordinated action across departments and that the ZFD approach provides a data-backed framework to identify crash hotspots and implement targeted measures. Piyush Tewari, Founder & CEO, SaveLIFE Foundation, said the programme brings engineering, enforcement, emergency care and public engagement together under a district-led road safety strategy.
The workshop concluded with alignment among participating departments on priority interventions and immediate actions aimed at accelerating efforts to reduce road crash fatalities in Ahmedabad district.
