Around 200 volunteers participate in the initiative promoting voluntary blood donation and community welfare
Porbandar: On the occasion of National Voluntary Blood Donation Day, the Indian Coast Guard organised a blood donation camp in Porbandar in coordination with the local administration and a wide range of government departments, educational institutions, community organisations and local establishments.
The camp was inaugurated by Dr. Sushil Kumar, Dean, GMERS Medical College, Porbandar. Around 200 volunteers, including personnel of the Indian Coast Guard and representatives from participating organisations, enthusiastically took part in the camp and donated blood. The initiative aimed to promote voluntary blood donation and raise awareness about the critical role of regular blood donation in saving lives.
The camp witnessed participation from organisations and departments including the Lions Club, NCC, Sandipani School, CISF, Shri Ram Sea Swimming Club, Saurashtra Chemicals, Agriculture College, SSB, AAI, Medical College, Mehar Samaj, Mehar Shakti Sena, Kharwa Samaj, Brahma Kumaris, Gujarat Maritime Board, Forest Department and Fern Hotels, along with the local administration.
The collective participation highlighted the spirit of community partnership and social responsibility in Porbandar. The initiative also underscored the importance of maintaining an adequate blood supply for patients requiring transfusions during medical emergencies, surgeries and ongoing medical treatment. The Indian Coast Guard expressed appreciation to all participating organisations, volunteers, medical teams and supporting agencies for their cooperation in making the camp successful.
The event reaffirmed the Indian Coast Guard’s commitment to community welfare, humanitarian assistance and service to society, in keeping with its ethos, “Vayam Rakshamah – We Protect.”
The enthusiastic response on National Voluntary Blood Donation Day reinforced a vital message: one voluntary blood donation can become a lifeline for someone in need.
